Thoughts on pain

I don't mean to get too philosophical, but I found this online tonight:
"We moderns, in our comfort-controlled environments, have a tendency to blame our unhappiness on pain, which we identify as the great enemy. If we could somehow excise pain from life, ah, then we would be happy. But … life does not yield to such easy partitioning. Pain is part of the seamless fabric of sensations, and often a necessary prelude to pleasure and fulfillment." --Yancey
This made me think about the pain we are going through here...how focused I have been on not feeling pain any more as a sign of my healing. Perhaps it isn't the eradication of pain but rather the recognition of its use that promotes healing. In other words, when we put our hands on a hot stove, it hurts. We learn (hopefully) that we shouldn't do that any more. Having an affair is hell. Ending hurts so badly. But through this, we learn what is good and healthy for us: a relationship free from the deceit, hurt, remorse, shattered dreams, lost moments of our lives that an affair leaves us with.
Just some thoughts.
