"Unavailable" phone call

Hey,

Just asking....yesterday I got a phone call late in the afternoon from a caller that said unavailable all in capital letters. I have never received a call like that before. I've had a couple of restricted numbers (doc offices) but never unavailable. I asked a friend of mine about it and she says unavailable means the person making the call intentionally blocked their number.

Of course this phone call unnerved me just a bit, less than a week before I reach 90 days of NC. I have blocked all phone numbers from xMM, but can he intentionally block his number and then try to contact me?

I was in the car and had just hung up with one of my daughter's and the phone rang again. I thought it was them calling back so quickly answered the phone without seeing who it was from. I said hello a few times but never heard anything on the other end, so I closed the phone. It wasn't until I was stopped at a light, that I realized the call was from unavailable.

Any thoughts? Tomorrow I have to reblock all the phone numbers because my cell carrier (Verizon) will only block for a certain amount of time. I am hoping I can reblock again. Anyone know if this is correct?

Thanks in advance!

Yes, I do believe you can block your number and it could cause it to be unavailable.

movingon,

first off, i'm so proud of you for almost reaching 90 days. that is HUGE!! 2nd off, i am also very proud of you for blocking all the numbers. i have an iphone, and ATT does not let you block individual numbers (GAH!).

it is possible to block your own number when you call out. i have called patients of mine from my cell phone and blocked the number; its something like you press * and a bunch of other things.

but, you should know, that many calls can come from "unavailable" or "unknown", not just your xMM. the best thing to do is stick to reblocking the numbers that you know about, and not answering calls that come from unrecognized phone numbers. if it is important, they will leave a message, and you can call back.

Thanks for the kuddos. Bummer to hear AT&T will not let you block individual numbers. I am going to try and reblock.

This is the first unavailable phone call I have ever received, so yes, it did throw me for a bit. I have gotten calls from numbers I don't recognize, but never an unavailable or unknown number. I usually don't answer numbers I don't know. And you're right,if its important, a message will be left.

Thanks for answering!

you can block individual numbers on att iphone, called att smart limits...small monthly fee but well worth it if you can do it. the person can not text or call you or you them...love it, cuz even if you have a weak moment you can not call or text them either....although I encourage self control, this is great for newbies struggling with no contact....well any of us for that matter

Anyone using a Android phone can download "EasyFilter" which will block specific phone numbers, unknowns and texts.

I would think any of the smart phones including the iPhone would have a similar program available.

Sorry I don't know more about other phones.

Google search will turn more help for you.
