What should I look out for in a therapist?

Hi everyone,
I have never sought after the services of a therapist until this past month, I always put down my A behaviour as pure selfishness, nothing more, nothing less. I waited for over a month to get an appointment with a reputable T here in the city that I live in. Although she is highly commended in her field,

Vanessa, I'll be interested in the replies you receive. I've never considered therapy either and yet it sounds as though many of those who post here have found it helpful.
Vanessa:
Thanks Decade,
There were a couple of little comments she made about A that gave me the impression that she wasn't as informed, but you are right, she is a professional and i was probably being presumptuous.
She gets ticks for (1) and (2) but we are still at the intro stage so i have not received any advice from her as of yet.
I too never thought i would be needing T, I dealt with some challenges when i was young without having T and thought if i got out of that alright, then i surely have it together now as an adult (Nah!). I also use to be one who severely judged infidelity, (father had many A's) and what do i do? Go down the exact same path.
One thing i have learnt in life is never say never.

Me too K.
This board provides the ins and outs of A's, but T will get to the gist of it.

Vanessa,
Here’s a link in the Healing Library that may help.
Whether you think you can or you think you can't you are probably right. A parrot can repeat what it has learned but the mark of true intelligence is applying what is learned.

Since you have already picked a T, you might want to skip over the 1st &
