Met an EAS gal-pal this week

This week I met a cyber-pal from this board who I've been writing to for almost 2 years. We met in downtown Detroit, a place I never frequent alone, and I managed to get lost several times. I was totally out of my comfort zone, but forced myself to face my fears and do something I have never done before.

It was a wonderful experience and my friend is one of most charming and gracious people I have ever met. I would have been so disappointed in myself if I had chickened out. Just goes to show you....

I'm so jealous! I would LOVE to meet you in downtown Detroit or any other place. I'm glad it went well and I'm proud of you for pushing beyond your comfort zone.

ClareBear,

As much as I appreciate your vote of confidence, getting older has brought some challenges with it. I now suffer from social anxiety and more often than not, I end up canceling family get-to-gethers and birthday parties because I start wigging out when there is a room full of people. I have been on meds for it for almost 3 years now, but there are still some situations that majorly trigger it to where even the meds won't help. I felt like this hours before I was supposed to leave that day. I was able to push my way through it ONLY because this gal has been trying for almost 18 months to figure out a way to meet. She's invited me to her country (Canada), offered to fly to Detroit and get a motel close to my house, both of which I had an excuse for not following through. I just couldn't let her down this time no matter how uncomfortable I was feeling. Her persistence gave me the strength I needed.

I am one of those who likes to keep their private life separate from their cyber life, but this was one determined gal who was able to break through my walls. Bless her heart for not giving up on me, but I doubt I will ever do this again. It just happened to come at a time where I needed to prove to myself that I am not yet ready to hide from the world. I do my best work behind the scenes and this time I actually had to step out and show my face. :smileywink:
