Bringing back the "squirrels"

Quite awhile ago on this board there was much talk of "squirrels".

It was kind of fun and silly, and it helped to relieve anxiety. What do "squirrels" have to do with us?

Well, you know how you get when your AP has dropped out of sight and off the planet, it seems, and your mind goes crazy trying to figure it out? What did I say what did I do what does this mean is it over should I cry why won't the phone ring/e-mail arrive/text message appear and on and on and on...

That's what we used to call "squirrels", those runaway thoughts, as if our minds are attics and the squirrels are trapped there, scurrying about, ramming into walls and getting hysterical, just like we are. We need someone to come and chase the squirrels out of there!

Chances are you AP is busy and not worrying about a thing. Everything's fine, it's not over and you should relax. See? I just got rid of your squirrels. That's me, chasing them out. Big shovel and all!

Telling everyone about your squirrels usually helps to get rid of them. So share them anytime. The "squirrel brigade" is here to help. :-)

One other thing...Lexi, your situation is very much like mine in that if something ever happened to either one of us (and we're in our 50's, so it's not out of the realm of possibilities), there would be no way for either of us to know since we have no friends or relations in common.

Yes, that squirrel is a tough one for sure. There have only been a few times that that squirrel has raised its ugly head for me, because my OM is so very good about keeping in touch (which is why, if he doesn't, I get really worried)!

As for your squirrels trying to get back in - let me scare them away for you! ~shovel in hand, running~... :-)

squirrels and i go way back, lexi.. good call though!!.. one thing that did help me along the way was to eventually realize that it is never "about me".. in the first six months or so, i did have a lot of insecurities due to the nature of the A.. but over time, i've learned to tell myself "it's not about you"... whatever happens.. and every time, i see this to be true.. and if it ever would be about me, i know that she will tell me... so, for short and long NC periods of necessity, i treat the squirrels as to be on loan, not mine but hers, to feed and care until she picks them up from me!!.. no shovels or pic axes required.. besides, i'd hurt myself.. you sound much more macho than i am!!!

Oh, I'd never hurt the squirrels Never. I just scare 'em away with the shovel - looking all scary and mean with the shovel over my head and all LOL. I like your idea of taking care of them for your AP though. Much more sane I suppose... LOL.
