Bringing back the "squirrels"

Quite awhile ago on this board there was much talk of "squirrels".
It was kind of fun and silly, and it helped to relieve anxiety. What do "squirrels" have to do with us?
Well, you know how you get when your AP has dropped out of sight and off the planet, it seems, and your mind goes crazy trying to figure it out? What did I say what did I do what does this mean is it over should I cry why won't the phone ring/e-mail arrive/text message appear and on and on and on...
That's what we used to call "squirrels", those runaway thoughts, as if our minds are attics and the squirrels are trapped there, scurrying about, ramming into walls and getting hysterical, just like we are. We need someone to come and chase the squirrels out of there!
Chances are you AP is busy and not worrying about a thing. Everything's fine, it's not over and you should relax. See? I just got rid of your squirrels. That's me, chasing them out. Big shovel and all!
Telling everyone about your squirrels usually helps to get rid of them. So share them anytime. The "squirrel brigade" is here to help. :-)

Just because this made me smile, I will confess.
I think I was the original poster on the squirrel analogy-WAAAAY back (and under another name).
Very early on in the relationship, I was hyper-sensitive about not hearing from my AP.
Thanks anotherfive for that story about the genesis of the "squirrels"--LOVE it :)
OK, this post brought me out of lurkdom. cl-lexi, you are the BEST!
This squirrel thing so rang true for me and really helped me get some perspective on what was,
LOL - now I've got images of squirrels in hamster wheels running madly! Great to know the squirrels started with you!
My squirrels are lazy too, but my OM keeps them quiet for me. :-) But they are still there, ready to scramble madly if I don't hear from him!
You've got a lot of choices. If getting out of bed in the morning is a chore and you're not smiling on a regular basis, try another choice. ~Steven D. Woodhull

I'm so glad I brought you out of lurkdom Kimber. I don't know how much of an inspiration I am but I knew this place needed someone to be "hostess", "caretaker", whatever it is I'm trying to be.
If I can get someone to chase squirrels away with a smile on their face, my job is done LOL.
Looking forward to hearing your story!

Yep, that'll put the squirrels into a real stupor for awhile LOL...
Kinder than shovels, don't you think? :-)
