Bringing back the "squirrels"

Quite awhile ago on this board there was much talk of "squirrels".

It was kind of fun and silly, and it helped to relieve anxiety. What do "squirrels" have to do with us?

Well, you know how you get when your AP has dropped out of sight and off the planet, it seems, and your mind goes crazy trying to figure it out? What did I say what did I do what does this mean is it over should I cry why won't the phone ring/e-mail arrive/text message appear and on and on and on...

That's what we used to call "squirrels", those runaway thoughts, as if our minds are attics and the squirrels are trapped there, scurrying about, ramming into walls and getting hysterical, just like we are. We need someone to come and chase the squirrels out of there!

Chances are you AP is busy and not worrying about a thing. Everything's fine, it's not over and you should relax. See? I just got rid of your squirrels. That's me, chasing them out. Big shovel and all!

Telling everyone about your squirrels usually helps to get rid of them. So share them anytime. The "squirrel brigade" is here to help. :-)

It means that you know AP is going to be there, he isn't going anywhere, and you have faith in that. So it's a good thing.

After posting (yesterday maybe?) that my squirrels are fat and lazy or hardly there, I did have a few scurrying around because OM didn't get back to me as quickly as he usually does. Did he meet someone is he questioning whether we should get together next week and that's why he's not answering is he OK - yup, a few squirrels were running around there for sure... LOL...

When my squirrels are dormant, it is an indication that I'm getting the reassurance and communication that I want/need/desire/require/demand.

That has to be true, as he is always there in one way or another and i never have to wait longer than a few hours to hear from him. Now, having said that, i think there's been a change on my part that mainly got rid of the squirrels - somehow i no longer care when or what he txts me or what he'd say. He has made himself too available! Can that be true? I do feel love for him still but it's so different now.

Having the squirrels around was kind of exciting - the now knowing, the relief when you finally chase them away, etc.

Agreed - but that's fun only for a while. Then it gets boring! A little drama and wondering is always good :) As long as the squirrels aren't bigger than you!

Alright.. I admit that I still deal with the squirrels on occasion. Silly isn't it? Our relationship is no longer a secret. We no longer have to hide everything. It's a real, out in the world relationship and I STILL get them (though not very often anymore!).

I think there's a small part of me that fears karma will come back and bite me in the arse for the things I've done. I do worry that AP/BF will find someone else and I'll get left out in the cold. There are times when I fear I'm simply not good enough for him. It's silly - he wouldn't be with me if he didn't love me, right? He always chuckles at me when I get all worked up...lol.

He and I are long distance (though we see each other regularly), so I think that sometimes plays into the "squirrels".

This thread made me laugh. Specially because my avatar on this board will forever remain a squirrel.

Thanks, Lexi.
