Cell phone/Text records

Both my AP and I have separate cell phone accounts from our spouses, in our names only. Both of us receive our statements online only (no paper.) Do you know if there is any way his W could request a copy of his cell records, if she ever got the whim, if they are in his name only?

yes, she can. It's not legal, but it's easy enough to do if she has all the right info. Then, you'd be busted....

She COULD request them, but a lot of companies won't give any information to anyone but the person who has the contract with them. Also, if she did - all she would see is when you called or what time text messages were sent. Not what the texts said -- from what I understand companies don't keep a record of the text message content for more than a short time (if it at all -- I mean, can you imagine trying to keep records of EVERY text sent from EVERY phone?)

it varies from one company to another to give out info to the person other than the original account holder.my AP has his own account but when we got busted, his W demanded the records and he had to produce them!!!i am not posting the details here for fear of W reading it.

I believe that in California, for example, it's illegal for the phone company to give out your phone records.

Check the laws of your state.

But yes, if she has his password(s), she can get in that way.

Well, I know my cell company will give out info with the right information. My son is on my account and he's had to call concerning his phone and they ask for the last 4 digits of your social, which he knows because he's had to call before with questions...now, it's only his phone number they give out the info for even though the accounts in my name, not sure if they'd give info on the other numbers on there, I wouldn't think so. My XAP's cellphone and his wife's, were on their daughters account, so of course, they could look at anytime and see when we would call each other and they had my number....they tried telling him they could tell when he texted me also, which I told him they were pulling one over on him with that because the bills don't show texting...I told him they were just trying to get him to admit to them that we were texting each other.

Most cell phone bills DO show text messaging activity. However, they do not show WHAT the text message said - only that one was sent. So, they may HAVE been able to see that at 9pm on June 27th a text message was sent from his phone number to your phone number. The content of the text isn't shown however.

Well, that would've been hard for them to prove also because he texts his wife and daughter all day every day also and they do the same along with friends.

Unfortunately, there IS proof of text messages between the two of you. Say I text message you right now ... on my bill (or online account) in the "messaging" area it will show a text from (XXX)XXX-XXX (my number) to (XXX)XXX-XXXX (your number) at 11:10pm on June 27th. Next to that information it will say whether the message was sent from my phone or received to my phone. On your cell records it will show that you received a message from my number at 11:10pm on June 27th. Most cell companies DO have that sort of capability -- to show the numbers, times and dates when texts are sent and received. It just won't show WHAT the text said.

AT&T in NJ will only give information to the account holder. They provide the time and date of each text - but not the content. But if you have an inappropriate amount of texting to a number - um lets say 190 in one month in my case, it's tough to deny. But my A's H believed it was just friendly.

My biggest fear is being caught via text messages. Last month alone I had over 4000 messages, to and from my AP. I know my AP's W, if she suspected a thing, would try and get access to his phone records. 4000+ is hard to justify.
