Phone records: a post-d-day warning
| Sun, 12-20-2009 - 3:53pm |
Your spouse can get your cell phone records, whether or not the phone is in your name. The phone is in my name, the whole account is mine, and they still released the detail bills to him. Thousands of texts and 61 picture messages in 3 months left me no choice but to come clean. But I was lulled into a false sense of security. And believe me, if he had asked for them, I couldn't have said no without looking like I was guilty, so even if you can count on the phone company refusing (which they clearly don't always do), you can't count on avoiding the confrontation that looks like: "Pull the records, I'd like to see them."
My D-day story will be posted too. Take care of yourselves and the people around you.

They usually keep only the record that a text was sent, not the contents/picture. My neighbor's cell company said they keep 30 days of content of text msgs. But when there are over 1000 texts a month, and over 60 pic texts a month, there's no need for details. My records told the whole story.
The danger in sending pictures is that spyware on your phone (which is as little as $50) can copy the pictures to another phone or computer, and the servers that the pictures pass through are also manned by humans, who can see the pictures. Your pictures might as well be posted on google images for as public as they can become by texting them. I didn't know. Please learn all about it--it's riskier than just getting caught.
Holy smokes.
there are lots of privacy things that we take for granted. My D-Day came about because a motel manager answered my wife's questions on the phone.

"What information do they keep?
Wow..that's scary. I once called my cell phone company to ask they keep the content of text messages, and they said they are retained but only available by courtt order. I'm surprised your H was able to get them.
