Question about hotel rooms

OK, so this is a weird question! We have gotten hotel rooms a few times in the past but I was always able to go back there the next morning and check out so it looked kind of "normal". (He lives farther away than I do so it's hard for him to get back into town) Well, we have the opportunity to be together Friday afternoon but I won't be able to get back there Sat. morning to check out so if we do this we have to check out just a few hours after we check in. Have any of you had to do this before and how embarassing was it? Dumb question I know, but I'm asking anyway! I'd like to hear your experiences!!

Hi TA, MM and I get rooms too. We try to make it for check-in in the pm and leave to be home at the normal time and meet again the next morning until check-out around noon. In fact, I am meeting him there tomorrow am..*sigh* Sometimes, we can only meet one day, so one of us gets the room on our way home and then we just meet in the am until check-out. A few times, we were in your situation. Since check-out could be done by phone, I did it from home one day, but that means that you have to use a credit card. Another time, MM told them that he was called away and had to leave. Also, I have noticed that most places really only care about getting paid, not what is going on. We usually stay at large hotels in a large city where people are less likely to pay attention to us.

Hope this helps!

I guess I dont understand the concept of having to formally check out...We pay for our room when we check in and we just leave the keys on the cradenza and leave and sometimes we put the "Maid service please" tag on the door and sometimes we just leave....Easy as that...they have no idea what time we left. However, I have regretted doing that once because we did have the opportunity to hook up again the next morning and I had already left the keys and requested maid service which is just as good as a check-out...most hotels appreciate that because they can rent the room out again that night if needed.

BUT! I will say we did get a room for an afternoon one day and you all wont believe this! They saw us go into the room with no bags and when we got ready to leave they saw us hang the maid service tag and the owner actually came out of the hotel office and asked us to please not use his hotel for our randevous in the future...HA! I about died! OM was ticked and told him where to shove the cash we just paid him to use his room...how embarassing...

HAHAHA! I'm laughing, but it took nerve to say that! I remember WAAAAAAY back when I was 16 years old, I worked at the receptionist desk of a local Motel. Yes, I saw all kinds of goings on, but didin't realize it at the time! I was told by the boss not to say anything, all they were interested in was the money, which back then was about 12.00 a night, or however long they stayed. Back then they had to return the key to the front desk. Usually they paid right when they checked in.

That's my nightmare, imshagn!! I would die of embarassment if that happened to me. I guess I know it's not really their business what we're doing as long as we pay for the room but . . . you know. . . . .

I never thought of just leaving the keys in the room if we've already paid. Maybe we'll try that. Thanks!!

You don't have to go to the front desk to check out. If you pay when you check in - just leave the keys.

OM & I haven't done the hotel thing. We live in a small town - wouldn't work for us. I think I would get a motel instead of a hotel (diff being the doors open to the outside)or else get a room that will let you park where you don't have to go past the front desk -if that worries you.

Take a overnight bag if you feel strange about checking in with no bags. I carry a small over night bag in my car anyway. That is a emg bag that has sock, pads, underware, wet ones, and stuff like that in case of a emg.

Have Fun!!!!

It is kind of a funny feeling going down to the desk only a few hours after checking in because they obviously know when you checked in and can put two and two together. I've pretty much gotten over it by now.

Actually, MM lives closer to where we meet than I do, but since I make the reservations since I'm free and MM isn't, I could never ask him to check out in the morning. I have stayed a couple of times overnight at the hotel and just checked out like "regular" people do - just had to get up a bit earlier to drive the extra miles to work in the a.m.

If the clerks give you a look or something, just don't give in and let them make you feel uncomfortable. Who really cares what they think - you've just had a great time! Focus on that!!! LOL! :)

i do this all the time -- pay in for cash for one night in advance (at check-in), and when you are ready to leave, call the front desk to tell them you're checking out. leave the room key in the room or you can mail it back, the address is usually on the key fob. see, no embarrassment!

OMG shag! i'm laughing over here. sorry, but i cannot believe the manager even had the nerve to say that. just to get back at him, i would have started crying and saying there was an emergency (kid fell off his bike or whatever) and my husband and i have to rush back. that would have made that manager-guy think twice before making a stupid remark like that again!

We've never had to do this before, and I have a question or two. Do you have to use your real name when you check in? Do they ask for a home address, ID? Do you have to tell them someone else is joining you? I'm feeling a little nervous, never having checked into a motel before. Any suggestions or advice would really be appreciated.
