What a way to start the week

So after a fight with my W last night, I woke up this morning angry. I got around and got my son in the car and we headed off. On the way to work, I noticed a police officer had pulled someone over. As I glanced over, I failed to notice traffic was stopped right in front of me. I slammed into the vehicle in front of me and my airbags deployed. My son and I and the people in the other car were all fine. The other vehicle had minor damage. But mine has probably upwards of $10,000 damage. My insurance will cover it and I won't be dropped, but my rates will probably go up $20 per month. Not to mention I was just about ready to buy out of my lease early. I literally had the loan papers with me. Now I have no idea what will happen. But I suppose the important thing is everyone was okay. I'm still a little shaken. My whole body feels sore and I have a headache. Anyway, I guess that is enough whining for today. It just was not how I wanted to start the week. Hope you all had a better Monday morning.

just hang in there and relax a bit, if that's possible. your W is getting near the end of the pregnanacy and i'm sure she is feeling very scared of the future by herself, with 2 children. i know, i know, you'll be there as much as you possibily can be, but it's still not the same as living in the same house and being able to step right into a situation. you're both on edge and your mind is a thousand miles away, literally.
at this point, try to take it one day at a time and make sure you keep your eyes on the road ahead! take care of yourself and those aches and pains. you'll feel better in a few days. it's the images in your head that will take longer to get rid of.
stay focused and strong. hugs to you, omaha.

I talked to the body shop once so far and they didn't have an estimate yet, but did tell me it wasn't all that bad. I'm torn about whether to buy the car or not (by the way Rain, it is a 2001 Mazda Tribute). The wholesale value on the vehicle is about $12,000 and I can buy it for $11,800. I don't think there is any engine damage, just radiator damage. I don't really even know if I can just turn it in since there was such a large repair to it. And I'm pretty sure I couldn't get a vehicle as nice as this one in the same price range (retail it would cost about $15,000 at least). Any ideas what I should do?

if the shop tells you that the engine is okay and the block is not cracked or shifted, then you can seriously consider buying the car, especially if you feel it's a good price. make a command decision after you get the damage checked out AND if you trust the mechanic. good luck with that!

They are still looking at the car to make sure on the damage. The engine is completely fine. The radiator will have to be replaced and they're looking to see if the frame might be slightly bent. The person doing the estimate said based on what she has seen so far, she would buy it if it was a good price. The damage should be completely repairable and good as or better than new.
