(I searched for the 4/11/11 issue of Time magazine online with no success. But there's an article in it entitled "Love Hurts" by Alice Park. If you have access to the issue in question, you'll see what I'm speaking about.)
Essentially, the article says that new studies indicate that sexual/romantic rejection causes measurable physical pain, not just emotional pain. It also says that reminders of the rejection cause physical pain as well, a hurtful flashback that stubbing one's toe on a coffee table lacks.
This reminded me of how many times I've felt chest pains upon feeling drawn toward an attractive woman and remembering that my marriage was moving steadily away from sexuality--or perhaps I was anticipating the pain of rejection if I approached such a woman.
What physical pain have you experienced from rejection?
