I experienced a serious back injury several years ago that has left me with a certain level of daily pain.

I tend to think, as you apparently do, that the neural pathways that register pain and pleasure are the same and therefore when pain is blocked, so is pleasure. However, I think humans are more sophisticated than that. Solely, from my own experience, mind you--no clinical research, no doctorin' or medical book larnin':

I have a fairly high tolerance for pain--I feel hypodermic needles but the sensation isn't uncomfortable, I can endure migraines for days before I realize I need to take some medicine, I don't flinch when my children tickle me. But, at the same time, I have an acute sensitivity to tactile pleasure. Physical touch registers almost as notes on
