Imagine if sexuality was no longer an issue and the world no longer fought to suppress it. We would have one thing fewer that serves to divide us, turn us against ourselves, further marginalize minorities, and deem some individuals below the rest. There are more critical issues facing humanity that deserve our attention, but how can we tackle those if we’re still fighting for freedom and equality at such a basic level? It’s deep-seated, but if we overcome this single issue, the world will be a happier, healthier place, and through greater understanding, we will be better able to address even bigger problems.

Why is it that the movie industry is so tolerant of gratuitous violence yet won’t allow even artful depictions of sex?

Can sex truly be depicted artfully without it's first intention to be to titilate?

It isn't just the movie industry, but society as a whole that has become tolerant of depictions of violence.

Clearly negative protrayls of sex and violence works. So why does society in general respond positivly to such poor depictions?

Tiptoeingaround, I'm not sure what that has to do with my question. We pretty much all agreed that there is often negative portrayls of sex in media.

I honestly do not know why portrayals of sex and violence "work" in media.

But what about the negative depictions of sex? Why are there so many and why do people like them?

Does that say something about the sexual health, or lack of sexual health, about the public in general?

When it comes to depictions of sex, we are going to get into the debate about what constitues "negative" and "positive" imagery.

For example, there is a commercial for Pomm pomegranite juice that mentions that it wasn't an apple that Eve tempted Adam with, but a pomegranite.
