What exactly is Porn?

Here's a question I have for the forum. We seem to debate its effects, its use etc. But do we have a standard for what actually constitutes porn. During the Meese investigation one source commented that they couldn't define what porn was, but recognized when they saw it.

So how about it folks, what is and isn't porn?

So the only medium for porn is movies or video? What about pictures?

I think pictures can be porn to. And they can be seperated into soft and hard. I don't think penertration has to be invovled for it to be porn. A person can be masturbating and it can be porn.

Context also matters. What is the purpose of projecting a certain image in a picture or video? Is the purpose to titulate? To show the human form? to show some kind of injustice? For art?

Also factor in what people claim is the purpose vs. what the real purpose is. An artist can paint a woman and claim it's not meant to be sexual so that it holds more wait but the real purpose was that it was sexual.

A movie can chornicle the life of a runway model, showing her relationship with her body and self, show her naked body and not be meant to be sexual.

While people might be titilated by Victoria Secrets catalogs, it's purpose is to sell a product. It might not be porn but it is using the female as a object.

The purpose of a video that contains 50% and more sex is probably to excite.

The purpose of a woman painted in a picture might just be to show the beauty of a woman unrelated to sex. We've so throughly objectified and sexualized women that any protrayl of a female naked body seems to automatically mean something sexual for many.

So then porn, is strictly limited to imagery? Ie painting, pictures videos? Sculptures maybe?

What if its purpose wasn't to titulate, but it does? There have been many "naked " paintings through the years that are "art", but is said is the case and it titulates some people , then is it porn?

As oppossed to what Dirty? If it's not limited to imagery, what other kind of porn is there?

I think if the purpose of the piece isn't to titilate but someone else takes it that way, then it's porn to them. But not neccesarily to the person who created it or others.

I think most women have less of an issue with their man objectively noticing the beauty of a woman vs him responding highly masculinely to a picture of another women in terms of sex. Because his intention is different.
