I'm heading out of town again on another overnighter. I'll be back sometime late tomorrow night, so won't be back on the board until Sunday. I'll see you then!

If you count staying in a motel with your husband and your 13-year old daughter pleasure, then it's pleasure, but for some reason, it partly feels like work too, lol!

My daughter decided to give cross country running a try this year and, since there is no cross country running at the junior high level (she's an 8th grader), she's running with her track club (runs the mile during the track season both with school and her club). Turns out she's pretty good at running cross country; two weekends ago she finished third in the state Junior Olympic competition and yesterday finished seventh in the regional Junior Olympic competition. So....that means we have one more competition ahead, her placement qualified her for the National Junior Olympic Finals, which is held on December in Rhode Island. We're on the west coast, so it'll be quite a trip. It was her goal, to qualify and run in the national competition and I'm proud of her for accomplishing it. In truth, I am in awe of what I have seen from her as far as guts, drive and determination. She's been my hero and inspiration. The rest of the time she's 13 and drives me crazy - LOL! Those of you who have been there know what I mean.

So -- I should be around full time until December, then I'll be AWOL again one last time, but it'll be for a few more days than the last two times. Aren't you glad you asked? ;)

Wow, congrats to your DD! That is quite an accomplishment. I tried CC and track and I wasn't very good at speed or distance. Though if I had tried harder the distance thing might have gotten easier. So I am in awe of your 13 year old. Good for her!

This girl is really something special...(you're going to be sorry you got me started....!)

Her track events are the 800 and 1600 meters (half mile and mile). The last meet of the local junior high school track season is called the "All City" where all the winners of the previous meets come together to race one more time. In the 1600 meter race she fell just short of the finish line, got up and stumbled across; even with the fall she still won the event(as she had all year), and broke the school record. The truly amazing part is that the reason she fell is because, unbeknownst to us at the time, she had the stomach flu. She'd known she was sick that morning but said nothing and went on to school because she wanted to run that race. I cannot imagine running a few feet, let alone a mile with the flu, never mind winning a race or breaking a record in the process. I'd have quite before I'd finished a half a lap if that, seriously.

As I took my vomiting, feverish daughter home that day, I said, "I don't care if you ever run again, you're my hero." And she is -- when she's not driving me crazy with her 13-year old attitude, lol!
