For over 20 years my husband has had a home improvement business which has always been feast or famine type of business. I have always helped him in his business as well as running my own business,

Keepingitreal, you NEED to express how you feel to him.

I agree with true blue. It's money YOU have saved for future known expenses (such as your sons education) and not money you want to use on something that could be risky (such as starting a new business) I think you just have to tell him you have set that money aside for your sons education and you can't chance losing it. The reality is it often takes quite a while for a new business to get off the ground and become profitable (if it does) and your not willing to take that chance with your money. I think you'll just have to tell him how you feel and if he gets mad that's HIS problem. Since you have paid for most of the household items and your sons education, plus HIS insurance on 3 vehicles, it sounds as if you have already done more than your fair share and it's just time to stick up for yourself and say just say no. GOOD LUCK.

Thanks, you are right. I just don't want to appear to be a dream crusher and unsupportive.

Ah, then tell you that you wish you were in a position to give him the money, but unfortunately you're not able to. ;-)

So many of my married friends (including me) have had this dilemma in some way -- it's frustrating!

You may try to not appear that way, but your spouse may make you feel like this anyway.
