My boyfriend is bipolar
| Mon, 03-06-2006 - 2:35pm |
I love my bf very, very much, but he is bipolar and it sometimes hurts our relationship. Can anyone please give me advice on how to cope with this situation or point me in the direction of help?? (Sorry if i should have posted in a different section, i wasn't sure)

Is he medicated? Is he under the care of a psychiatrist?
I have two bipolar sisters. They are not a picnic to be around. Even the one who is medicated and living a fairly normal life. Bipolars also tend to be violent over time if left untreated. If you are wanting to know how to make it easier to be with a bipolar, good luck. It's been over 20 years and I still don't know how to make it easier other than telling myself it's not me, it's their illness.

We could probably give you some help if you gave us some specifics of what's happening, but without having telling us what problems you're having it's pretty much impossible to offer suggestions that might be helpful. Can you give us some examples? Also, is your boyfriend on medication and is he taking it faithfully? How long has he been on meds? Is his bipolar diagnosis new? How long have you two been together?
I'll be checking back for your answers, PrincessDi ~
No apologies for where you posted, your posting her is appropriate. But, there is a board on the Health Channel that might be helpful to you too:
