Xanax abuse
Sun, 08-04-2013 - 11:37pm

My boyfriend and I have been together just about a year. We are the best of friends & have been since we were 15, so it's not like I didn't know this before ... Back in April 2012 he came to my apartment one weekend (way before we got together) and was messed up On Xanax. He went to jail in may & got out in August & since  then has cut back his usage of xanax. It's been a problem on more than one occasion in the past year but I told myself "if this is gonna be the worst thing in our relationship then ill let it be" . Just last week my brake lights had stopped working & I dropped him off at work & then went to my fathers house so he could take a look. Well he ended up fixing them & when I went to pick my bf up from work I told him about it.. He was working with his cousin this night (who sells the Xanax & other pills) .. he asked me "what brakes?" And I just looked at him like wtf? I asked if he took a bar and he got all defensive & I said its just cause how could u forget? I just dropped u off a few hours ago... He said "look at me..... I promise you I will never take another bar as long as were together cause I don't ever want to hear this crap again"..... Mind you, I hadn't said "u better not take anymore" .. Like I said I let it be our biggest problem.

well the other night his cousin came by w some pain pills (legit reasons to have these!) anyways he came back with 4 yellow Xanax also. I said "I thought u weren't gonna do those anymore?" He said "oh I'm not i just got them cause he owed them to me & for nights I can't sleep "... So I let it go. Knowing there was a 99.9% chance he had just paid for them. tonight we were hanging out in the living room& all the sudden he started slurring & I looked on the coffee table and the jar with the pills had been moved . So I asked him "bae where are those bars ?" He said "oh outside in my bag......" I said "can u go get tthem for me?" So in a few min he went outside to smoke a cig & he didn't bring them in after I ahead reminded him again before we went outside to bring them back inside...... So I said "where are they?" He said "I ate them"... I said "what?" And he repeated himself .

My biggest thing is trust .. He lied to me about 3/4 times in this post.... For Xanax ...;-( my knees and back have some problems so I've been taking half of ssome perks w hhim when he gets tthem but I never abuse them. All I do is smoke weed I barely even drink. Am I making it seem like im okay with the drugs since im partaking .. Only for legit reasons ??

do I have a right to be upset? How do I go about fixing this problem for good? HELP! We are both 23 years old

You don't need to fix his problem, you need to fix your own.  You DO NOT take percoset legitimately........your doctor didn't give you a prescription.  That is the only way they're legal.  You're both addicted to drugs.  Just because they're pharmaceutical drugs instead of home made drugs does NOT make them legal or legitimate.  Your b/f is a serious addict, and both of you need to seek counseling and/or rehab.  If you don't, your life will be nothing but blurred memories and overdoses.  I lost a son to an overdose of oxycodone......and it WAS legitimate, his doctor gave him a prescription.......but they're addictive just like percoset, and you have to take more and more to dull the pain........and eventually, you'll take one too many, and end up in the morgue like he did!

I have to concur with the poster who said that you need to get off the drugs yourself.  It seems like you live in an environment where taking prescription drugs and smoking marijuana is the norm.  Um, hate to break it to you but what you, your bf, your friends, etc. are doing is illegal. I did not read anything in your posting about an actual doctor appt with a legitimate prescription being written for any of the drugs mentioned.  That you are okay with the fact that your bf takes Xanax without a doctor's prescription  "if this is gonna be the worst thing in our relationship then ill let it be" that speaks volumes about your comfort with illegal drug taking.  This is not going to get any better, and will probably get worse, unless you get the help you need to stop taking the illegal drugs (go to a doctor if you have pain), and tell your bf that you can't condone his drug taking any longer. My co-worker's daughter starting taking prescription drugs when she had an operation, and she never weaned herself off of them, was involved with someone who was able to continue to get her the drugs (illegally), and is now in rehab for the second time.  Again, she got caught up with people who just think that there is nothing wrong with purchasing and taking drugs illegally (regardless if they are prescription or street drugs).  There is a whole mindset here that needs to be changed before anything else will change.

I don't use Xanax .. He does. I know it's not for pain lol.. I said he gets pain killers too. Perquisites. I take a half of them when my knee hurts. I have problems with them from time to time from years of being athletic ..

Unless you live in Colorado or Washington where marijuana is legal, you are both using illegal drugs.

"For Xanax ...;-( my knees and back have some problems so I've been taking half of ssome perks w hhim when he gets tthem but I never abuse them".

Hate to burst you bubble, but you ARE abusing Xanax.  It is a drug for panic disorder, anxiety disorder, etc. and it is not approved for knee and back problems.  Obtaining a prescription drug for off-label use without a prescription IS abuse.  And it is illegal as well.

"How do I go about fixing this problem for good"?

As a starter, stop using drugs yourself.  Perhaps you could then think straight and ask youself why you are with this guy.
