2 years and still dealing with insanity!

Hey all. It has been a while since I've posted here. My user name is different b/c I found out that the ex was tracking my online activities. We've been separated since '06, co-parenting 2 boys (4 and soon to be 6). I feel good about moving forward with life, the kids seem to have adjusted well, though the older boy often brings up crazy things his dad says to him about me/our former life together.

The annoying thing is that the ex has not moved on. He is as irrational as ever. I've come to accept that his behaviour won't change- perhaps ever. I have some serious doubts about his ability to be a stable parent, but I can't bear to get into custody issues or deprive the kids of the dad they love. Furthermore, I know that I give in to his demands (typically related to parenting time) just to avoid the tantrums, tirades, and crazy things he says to the kids.

What I'm really wanting to ask is how those of you who have irrational, poorly behaving exes manage the behaviour. Any tips, suggestions of helpful books, ANYTHING that will help me feel less controlled by his craziness would be so much appreciated! I've moved on, but clearly not enough ;)

Thanks for the suggestion Karen. I'll check out your list and the book you suggested. Honestly, I'm at the point of questioning whether I'm more insane for trying to reason with an obviously unreasonable person. I get overwhelmed thinking about having to co-parent with this person for the rest of my life!
