I was wondering, if in CA, it is mandatory to take a parenting class, before you can get your decree. One woman I know said she did, but I am wondering if it a statewide law, or by county/courthouses.

Thanks. I'm trying to help a friend figure things out.

Hi there! It looks like all counties in CA require some type of parenting education classes before a divorce decree can be issued: http://www.ncsconline.org/WC/Publications/StateLinks/CustodParentEdStateLinks.htm

However, in limited circumstances, a judge can waive the classes, but that's very rare. Hope this helps!

Thanks Christine,

Weirdly, Los Angeles County courts aren't listed. I read up on what you linked me to. It seems that "mediation" is required, but not necessarily a "parenting" class. As some require a class, and some don't. Mediation is only where someone is there to make sure that things are fair, or that visitions are done correctly, etc. Hmmm.............

Although, it seems that all courts offer a parenting class.
