applied for state help today

Today I went down and applied for state help. I have some money but I am afraid that since stbx does not want to pay cs (at least not reasonable cs) I need to do something. I am worried about not having money for food and rent. I have been looking for a job but because I only have three hours from when I get out of school and the kids get out I can't seem to find anything. If I drop out of school I will have to pay back my loans. I only have two years left and I really need to finish for me and my kids. I hoped that stbx would pay cs so I did not have to go here. I felt bad but the lady at the office said I was doing the right thing. She said I could get more than just food stamps. They want me to come back at 11am and meet with them to see what all I can get. I hope it is enough to live on. I hope to go to court next month for temp orders. My lawyer filed Friday. She will be back on Wed and hopefully I will know the date then.

Definitely stay in school. You not only have to plan for today--you have to look forward for tomorrow. I've dropped out of school twice. The first time was when I was 19 and burnt out. The other was when the X left me for the OW and I had no choice but to move back home. (my parents' house) Right now I'm in the process of getting enrolled again for the fall semester. I know it will be a lot of hard work, long hours, etc but it WILL be worth it. Part of me regrets making the decision to drop out, but at that time, I did not know myself, whereas I do now (I think). Please stay in school. It will help you out in the long run.

Hugs,
Becka

You are doing the right thing... I'm sure if I were in your shoes, I wouldn't be thrilled about it, but state support is there to help you until you are able to do it yourself again... which sounds like exactly what you'll be using it for. I hope that it helps... keep us posted!

Hey Jennifer, Good for you for taking the necessary steps to provide the best possible life for yourself and your kids! You are doing everything right and remember you are using the system as it was intended...a temporary measure for those in great need.

Hi~

I'm glad that you are exploring (and taking advantage of) your options for help.... but.... child support is not about what your EX "wants" to do.

I have filed divorce and hopefully will know Weds what date I go to court. My lawyer is out of town until tomorrow. She is getting the papers on stand by so we can go at short notice if he does not pay. My appointment got canceled due to the lady having the flu. They asked me to come tomorrow.
