What are your thoughts on taking back your maiden name?

I am currently filing for my divorce. I intend to go back to my maiden name as well. I respect my father more than I ever respected my husband and I feel I would rather carry something with pride than something with bad memories and sadness. Plus, I see it as a chance to reclaim who I am. I also deserve to find someone who I can take their last name with and have the pride and joy that I can do that.

Sorry, I think my soapbox just broke.

:)

completely agree with your assessment... and i feel that it was just one more way to reclaim ME again... not being the other half of someone else... that didn't have it in him to want to keep our relationship going because another "opportunity" came along... and i live in a small town... i'd rather not be associated with him anymore...

and no worries... my soapbox isn't broken... yet... however it is severely dented for all the times i've gotten on it...

I didn't. My name is actually hyphenated, but I use only my married name for everything but taxes. I didn't want the hassle of changing it back, and I wanted DD and I to have the same name. I asked XH if it would bother him and he said no. If it would have bothered him I'd have changed it back.
