Convo with STBX about trading in the car

So yesterday, I dropped DS off at STBX's for the night, and I told STBX that I have been considering trading in the Durango (it gets around 10 mpg on a good day) for something more economical. He says to me, "I HATE driving 30 year old vehicles. It's about ME now!!" I didn't say anything to him (DS was within earshot), and told DS to have a good time with his dad.

As I was driving away, all I could think about was DS's comment about driving old cars, and it struck me as very silly, since he had his Plymouth muscle car (30+ years old) ready to take DS to the car show. He's been working on antique cars for as long as I can remember.

Anyway, I spoke with STBX this morning. He told me he has an offer that will work for everyone. He'll take the Durango, and I'll get a more economical car. He'll "suck it up", and fix the Durango (He's worked on it since the day we bought it brand-new in 1997)... although I just dropped $400 getting new ball joints in April... it needs new tires, some exhaust work, and the AC is on the fritz. I told him that I'm not sure what I was in the market for, and hadn't looked in a few weeks, and maybe I'd just hang onto it for the time being. I used one of his most famous phrases, and told him "I'll take it under advisement". That stuck in his craw, and he said, "I'm being nice, since the Durango is in MY name! I need a good car, too!" I said, "Well, are you going to trade in your Plymouth Barracuda for a new one?" His reaction was, "NO!! Why would I do that?!?" I said, "As a trade-in." I had to go, so I rung off with him at that point.

He COULD have a fantastic car, a SAFE car, if he sold his 2 race cars and the muscle car. That is an easy $20-25,000 right there, if not more. But NO, he can't miss out on his "fun stuff" so he can show off to DSs.

So, he has the 2 plow trucks; 2 race cars; 1 Plymouth Barracuda; 1 Suburban that he has at his disposal. All I have is a Durango that isn't even in my name, and he has the nerve to say that HE's "sucking it up?" LOL

EDIT: STBX has an auto salvage yard, and has MANY, MANY cars at his disposal. The Durango was purchased as a family car in 1997, when I had a 9 y/o and a 16 month old, and I was hauling them around everywhere. STBX drove the Durango about a dozen or so times in the 9 years that we've had the car. He's claiming it as all "his", but he keeps sending ME all the bills for it, LOL.
