Find a local women's shelter. They should have lawyers that do pro-bono work. Just because you aren't physically abused does not mean you won't qualify, verbal abuse is damaging also. Even if you can't get a lawyer for free, you can find one who will work with what you have. AND they can always go after your ex to pay for the court costs.
I don't know what state you're in but for a Mom to lose her children in most states she would have to be abusive, on drugs or abandon them. It doesn't sound like this is the case to me. There is a chance for the 50/50 custody, you just have to get a good lawyer. Mine was a woman who was also divorced. She became a lawyer after her divorce because she couldn't' find a good one out there.
Best of Luck,

Dads are getting more and more rights these days... and for good reason.... BUT.... if you're at home, there's no reason a judge would opt for day care (possibly not even opt for the mother in law) if you're available to watch him WHILE YOUR EX IS AT WORK.
Good luck!

Well - there are a couple issues. 1st, yes, he could very well get 50/50 custody. BUT< i bet if he did, YOU could INSIST that when he is at work, YOU are the caretaker ... which in essence would give you way more that 50/50. I dont know a court in the world that would choose someone other than a mom, to care for thier toddler, if she was avaliable. But Im sure it happens. You need a GOOD lawyer, who is in your corner & will settle for NOTHING LESS.
Rebecca, Mom to Averey, 2/8/00, Kibo, Sana & Zuri too!
