no i didn't and i am sorry that i didn't. but i DID go to pre-divorce counseling (it was REALLY 'marital counseling' but it helped me to focus on what was going on and turned into pre-divorce counseling) and i strongly recommend it

Me too!... My then-husband thought it was marital counseling to "save" us.... I told him I was past that and that it would be counseling to help us cope with the divorce individually and as parents.

nah karen! i was ms. cheerleader to the very end!! i didn't realize that it was, in fact, going to be 'pre-divorce' counseling. nuh uh. i was going to MAKE THIS MARRIAGE WORK!!!

ha ha ha

in the end i was lucky - we had a great counselor who didn't waste time on crapola and kept us (well, me actually, cause ex stopped going, cause 'he doesn't need therapy' and 'all therapists are quacks') right on track. and i am grateful that she helped me see the marriage for what it was (and especially for what it wasn't) and how i could either ACCEPT things as they were or else move on (cause things were just not going to change).

Ya.... I was past the MAKE THIS MARRIAGE WORK stage... you know, when he was refusing to go to counseling... for the very same reasons that your EX proclaimed... or that's what he was hiding under, anyway.

I'm wearing some very, very sweet ear rings today :-)

I don't know if what we did would be considered counseling or not.

Wow, my H did the SAME thing! I asked him to go to counseling for about 2 years, his family told him we should go to counseling...he refused until the day I told him I was SERIOUSLY going to move out because I had HAD it! All of a sudden he wanted to do whatever was necessary to save this marriage and even TOOK THE BLAME (trying to be the martyr, in my opinion). All the counseling did was solidify my desire to leave him. He is still crying about wanting to "work it out," but he doesn't get it that it is (as you said) too little, too late and I have had it with his bull. Besides, I think he is dating and won't admit to it...how are we supposed to work it out when there is another woman in the picture?

My minister did the same thing. We were very young too (21 and 24). I feel like he may have had doubts about us, but wouldn't he have said something?
