My ex is an idiot. Almost all of us on here think that, but I have proof. I just got an e-mail from my ex. Our divorce became final on Sept. 4th, 2005. So now he writes:

"Hi XXX,

How are you? Thank you for forwarding the divorce proceedings in the mail a while back. I was just wondering what the status of the actual divorce certificate was? If it has already arrived, could you please send me my copy. I realize that I did not send you 1/2 of the divorce proceeding costs. If that is why I have not received the copy of the certificate, I apologize and I would like to rectify and end the matter. Pleas let me know."

DUH!
If ya don't pay... Besides, in Canada, the divorce certificate is not mandatory, and you have to go apply for one...
I answered:

"Hello XXX,
The divorce is final. I have not sent you a copy of the divorce certificate as you did not pay for one and did not participate in the divorce at all. You can apply for one by taking a copy of the papers I sent you to the Law courts. It costs approximately $30. The divorce became final as of September 4th.

Take care,
XXX
PS. You owe me three hundred dollars."

Let him figure it out for himself! I went crazy for a few months, running around getting papers, trying to get him served etc., taking time off work to file papers. He evaded, and lied, and made the whole thing a lot more complicated than it had to be. But now, months later, when he needs the certificate, who does he come running to??? He probably wants it so he can marry his little floozy! LOL! Good for him. Have fun.
Anyway, just wanted to share. Can't wait until tax time, and he figures out he has to file his taxes on his own! LOL!

That reminds me of my stbx that e-mailed MY attorney a few months ago asking if he was divorced yet! Well, since he's done NOTHING to move this forward, NO it's not over yet.

I'm sorry ladies, but that makes me laugh! I can't help it. In my case too, I did all the "work" regarding the breakup. Makes sense to me, since I feel like I was the one who did all the work in the relationship also! Patterns don't change during a divorce either I guess. I was fortunate in that I never legally married him, so my "divorce" was easier from a legal standpoint. He didn't even bother to contest custody or child support or anything I thought was important to resolve. But he didn't care during our relationship so again, I wasn't suprised by that. Good luck to you ladies on your fresh start!

My "certificate" is a stack of legal documents that are stamped and signed by the judge.... nothing to frame there!
