Do you meet 1/2 way for visitation?
| Sun, 09-10-2006 - 8:45am |
My stbx moved 4 hrs away and insists I drive half way to meet him for the boys to visit. I have been doing this "as a courtesy" when my work schedule permits, but it is expensive with gas prices as high as they are. I do make it clear that he created the distance and I do not have to do this, but I do it "as a courtesy". However, it has become an expectation on his part.
Anyone else drive that far to meet for visitation, or is it their problem since they created the distance?
Thanks,
Laura

Do you have a custody order in place? Does it specify transportation? If he moved away for no really good reason, I would not transport. IF you do not want to do so forever, do not start. Judges look at precedents and tend to "keep things the same". Courts are beginning to strongly discourage parents moving away from the children and one of the ways that they do that is to place the burden of transportation 100% on the parent who chose to move. I would consult an attorney and try to get a feel for how courts in your area are handling transportation issues.

Usually, whoever moves arranges transportation.
