Dh was adamant about not paying me any spousal support, but I really felt I deserve to get something until his retirement pay kicks in, in 1.5 years. I was only asking for $300/month. After some heated arguments, he finally compromised and offered me $200/mo., which I accepted. It's not much, but it's better than nothing. Now we can finalize the agreement.
I have been told by just about everyone that I won't be able to get a loan to buy a house, because I haven't worked outside the home in a very long time and I don't have any credit history established. Well, I refused to listen, and decided to email some realtor's in IL, where I will be moving to, explain my situation to them and see what happens. Yesterday I got calls from 2 realtors. I ended up applying for a loan and happily discovered that, not only do I have a credit history, but I also have an excellant credit rating! I was pre-approved and have my first appointment with a realtor next week! I'm excited about actually being able to buy a house, on my own, especially when everyone was saying it would be impossible! Woohoo!
Things are starting to look up!

That's great news Carol... and even though you haven't had any of your "own" credit or a job..... your "joint" credit while being married, creditors assume you were partly responsible for making sure it got paid and on time.

Yay! What good news! Where in Illinois are you planning on moving to? I'm in the Northern burbs of Chicago right now, but I'm moving away in three weeks. Keep us updated!
