Extreme Cruelty For Divorce?

Hi everyone and first let me thank you for reading my post and I am sure helping me. I went to our county law library today and copied the Pro-Se Divorce kit. I plan on filing for extreme cruelty, I read an article that said less explaination is better do not go into detail what it said was"spouse refuses to engage in meaningful communication which renders it unreasonable and unhealty to remain married." It states that is sufficienet to sustain the burden of proof for divorce. Oh also I am located in Nj. I know laws vary from state to state..Any input with be greatly apprieciated... Thank You, Kathy

I live in Florida and just do "no fault" so I can't really help. I just didn't want you to feel ignored!! Welcome to the board. Do you have to have a reason in NJ to divorce?
Kimberly
Wow, that's a long time to have to be separated! Thanks for pointing that out.
To the OP.....even if you are planning on filing pro se, it's a good idea to have a consultation with an attorney. Most of the time, they offer them for free or very low cost. Also, you may want to consider hiring an attorney for a few hours, just to review your documents.

Hi,
I'm in South Jersey and filed for extreme cruelty in October. My complaint says basically what your literature suggests. It goes further to mention that the cruelty has extended beyond 3 months (to show that you're not just mad at something that happened recently) and gives some examples.
When I went to my lawyer, I told her about his having secret credit cards opened and the bills mailed to his parents house. I mentioned that he got a ticket for running a red light in Philly's downtown district when I thought he was at work. I told her that he wouldn't seek counceling. She turned these into a statement that said "He hides finances, isn't truthful about where he goes at night and for over 3 months has refused to communicate and address these problems."
I am in Nj also. I filed for divorce last August under extreme cruelty with a side dish of habitual drunkenness.
I told the lawyer about all the crazy stuff that went on in my home and it was pretty brutal but true.
Then my husband denied everything.
Now we are working on a settlement.
I agree t go see a lawyer if for a free consultation at least.
My expereince is the lawyers are greedy and slow. Very non-responsive and unorganized.
Could just be my lawyer but I have talked to other dissatisfied cuatomers of divorce lawyers.
Good luck.
