Filing for divorce in MD

Has anybody had any experience filing for divorce on their own in Maryland? My STBX and I, as I have mentioned before, are amicable and he would be willing to work with me if I file. We don't really have anything to split as far as material possessions. The only thing we really have is a car he decided to lease last December that has both our names on it. I could go through having my name taken off of it, but in the meantime he's actually trying to get us out of the lease. Anyway, if anybody has gone through filing in Maryland, do you have any advice on where I can start? And how long would I have to be separated to file? Also, we just moved from Alabama, so I don't think we're considered residents of Maryland yet. Would you maybe recommend trying to file in Alabama, or would that be too much of a hassle being out of state and all? I really don't have much money to work with, so that's why I want to try to file on my own.

It looks like the Residency requirement for MD is one year, but you're right... it would be a pain to do the divorce in AL since you've already moved.... but, if you can both agree on everything, you might be able to mail the documents to file them (or have an attorney in MD that can practice law in AL file them for you).

This might help:
Maryland Divorce Law
Maryland Divorce Laws, Statutes & Guidelines
Divorce Source: State Divorce Laws: Alabama

Well, I'm trying to adjust my attitude for spring... I've been in this funk, and it needs to go away! ;-)

Makes things kind of cheery, I think... glad you like it, too!
