If you fill out the divorce forms yourself, when you go to the courthouse to file them with the clerk, do you just walk in and do it? or is it like a court date or something? is it the same place you get your marriage license? how much does it cost? thanks...

It varies by state and county, at ours there are windows that you go to for filing, its like the DMV. No appt needed. You pay the filing fee (ours was $320) and they stamp them, we had to bring 3 copies: the court kept one, I kept two, one for me and the third to have served on the other party.

In our county there is a separate family court building. I would just call your local courthouse and ask all these questions, just tell them you are filing without an attorney and need some guidance and they are usually are pretty helpful.

I agree.... typically you won't need an appointment to file the papers, BUT I do think it's a good idea to call the court clerk's office and ask about the process (where to go, what the fees are, what paperwork is required, timetables, what happens next, etc.)
