Found the line of credit in his D&I

Well, after all these months of my atty saying that I got a fair shake, and a BETTER deal than my X, I did some digging last night, and in my X's D&I... which he returned to my atty in *November 2005*... he lists the 50K line of credit as a DEBT on his business property! My atty told me that everything was sorted out; that X's atty told her (verbally! with no proof!) that the line of credit was spent on the house. Good grief, she really dropped the ball on this one. AND she told me at the beginning of June 2007: "It's ONLY 50K. It's water under the bridge." And my response to her was, "That 50K is going to come out of MY hide. It's not JUST 50K".

And she charged me 25K for her services. The atty I spoke with yesterday said, "I have clients that I've charged 100K; their files will fill an entire ROOM. Atty B's fees are 5 times what they SHOULD be."

I am so sorry your attorney has treated you and your case this way. If 50k is not a big deal to her - perhaps she wouldn't mind returning the 25K you paid her and adding another 25k for interest in aggravation! Then we'll see what a big deal it is. That is a huge amount of money.

I haven't paid her the full amount-- just my retainer so far. She sent me a bill (not itemized-- she told me it would far exceed the quoted 25K if she itemized...) and said that at the closing for my house, she'll have the bank draft her a check. Fat chance on THAT-- the new atty said that her not itemizing her bill is a big red flag. We'll see if she gets even 5K out of me. The new guy told me that I have the right to dispute her bill, and to get involved with something called the "Fee Arbitration Board", as well as the "Board of Bar Overseers". So hopefully, this is be resolved soon.

I have an itemized statement from her for services from June 2005 to December 2005... The bill at that time was $1700-something, and there was $200 left of my retainer. I can't for the life of me see how another $23,300 in expenses was racked up after that. She has a lot of esplainin' to do!
