funny story about DS

(background in a nutshell: my former inlaws are the israeli equivalent of 'white trash' , not necessarily evil people, but they are a bit backwards, small town, basicaly uneducated, mostly unemployed at times, etc (this is not just my MIL/FIL, but their children and now grandchildren). anyway, my ex (DS'S father) has not had relationship with DS most of his life, has never paid CS, never did anything for hm, has not held down steady jobs, has no relationship with HIS family, etc).

so - i maintain a relationshp with former inlaws, except EXH, not a daily/monthly but a 'once in while'. so i called former MIL on friday, chit chat, she asked me how is DS doing, i said he is volunteering at a library for a few months so far and they absolutely love him there, so she said - well, what do you expect, he is from family! luckily it was on the phone and not face to face because i couldn't keep a straight face. realy - he is supposed to have learned about responsibility from THOSE people? from his father who has abandened him? from his aunts and uncles who would rather be on the dole than get a job? from his uncle who at age 30 got divorced and MOVED BACK HOME to mama because "who else is going to do his laundry and cook his meals"? really.... i told this to DS and he laughed and said exactly what i was thinking...... sorry former MIL: DS learned about responsibility and loyalty and work ethics from the one person who has been taking care of him all his life - ME!!

SK,

I am constantly impressed by your ds--your stories of him give me such faith and encouragement that I can do it by myself. Thank you!

That's hysterical! Now that family gets all of the credit for the positive things your son does??? I don't know how you avoided bursting into hysterical laughter.

thanks everyone!!! they just kill me those people, sometimes...

meanwhile, our home computer died so i can't really be 'online' here for now. (i am at school now, have a few minutes before class starts). I decided (as hard as this is for me, as the computer was our *ONLY* source of entertainment, our tv doesn't work, and even if it did - we don't have cable which in israel is as good as 'no tv' lol) *NOT* to fix it for now, let DS deal with it, i told him that he can get a job, and really within a few days he would have enuf to fix it, and within 2-3 months of even part time work he can buy a new one with all the latest bells and whistles. hopefully, i FINALLY found the motivation we were lacking. i spoke to his therapist and she is meeting with him today so hopefully he will get her *approval* and move on. he is still volunteering at a library, which is really FINE as far as i am concerned, but he does need to 'move on' and get a 'real' job (with a paycheck)....
