Help! What is commonly awarded?

All I wanted was OUT. I would have been happy with a cheap divorce and custody of the kids. I don't really even want child support. I just want OUT.

That said... when I dragged my feet a little on the divorce filing (hoping he'd come to accept it), HE filed first. ALL this amid begging and pleading for reconciliation.

Anyway... he sued me for spousal support, permanent alimony, custody and finally legal fees. (And of course the normal equitable distribution, etc.)

What is common? The jerk already got spousal support. What are the chances of him getting more? LEGAL FEES??? He claims because he was unemployed he couldn't afford counsel. But He's the one who took it to the extreme. His unemployment check was more than sufficient considering he paid NO bills. He is LYING.

He's punishing me. He was abusive... mostly verbally. Also an alcoholic. Now I understand why people stay in abusive relationships. It could cost me upwards of $20,000 or more just to get out of this marriage. If I get saddled with his fees. Why should I have to pay for them? He's the one that's going to all these lengths.

I'm losing faith in my lawyer. Not that he's messed up.. I just don't feel confident. It could just be normal fears.

I need some reassurance. He swore he would make me pay if I divorced him. And he's going through with it.
