My situation is like yours, but opposite. After 15 yrs of a bad marriage, I hired an attorney and walked out of the marital home 6 weeks ago. I moved into a tiny 1 bedroom apt with my 4 yr old granddaughter and have to daily deal with the shootings/muggings etc going on in the complex.
I have no job, havent worked in 7 years. The ex to be makes $70k+ per year, hired himself a better attorney, and I am losing everything at this point.
I have been falling apart, but am so happy I walked after all the abuse and drinking.
Now he is trying to take my car, keep the house, and not pay any alimony.. *sigh* I have no family here, they are all on the east coast. My 3 grown daughters are here in OK, but are going through their own family situations.
Keep strong, you sound like you do have a lot going for you..!!
Good luck, PoohBear! Down here in Texas I think there's a 60 day waiting period between when you file and when you are legally divorced. I haven't started my own yet, but am pretty much ready to, since the wife has been sleeping around long enough.
I hope you have a speedy trip to the next chapter in your life!
Sounds like he is very controlling.

Sometimes, with these abusive men we all seem to be involved with, I wonder if it wouldn't be better to just lose everything and start from scratch.
