I think that the scariest thing about getting old (and I agree with you .... when I was 10, my mother seemed ancient!) is that I'm not where I thought I'd be at this age. My Mom still tells the joke about the year she turned 40, the dog died, and I went to college. We didn't have a dog, but she turned 40 and got the empty nest. I'm 41 and I've got at least 11 more years before I get to say that. I'll be 52!

At my old job, we accumulated points towards our pension. You got a point for each year of your age and a point for each year of service. To get the minimum number for retirement, I'd've had to be 58, so that's what I was shooting for. Retirement at 58. That's a faint memory now without that pension, though my stock options might come through!
