How did you serve papers
| Sun, 10-15-2006 - 9:32pm |
I am very seriously considering divorce after finding out for the second time about hidden loans and questionable ethical behavior regarding his business. I have sought counsel advice and may serve papers shortly. Although my husband knows I am unhappy and he has been non compliant in being honest about his debts and how he plans on resolving them divorce has not been a threat that I held over his head. I know he will be unhappy about this but his behavior is deplorable and I can't continue to live with him like this. How did you decide to serve papers and what would you suggest.

Well, my husband knew that I was talking to an attorney and filing the paperwork, so I gave him a choice.

Lei,
Before actually filing and serving papers I strongly encourage you to engage an attorney to find out how to protect yourself financially. If your husband is already hiding assets from you, he's not going to be forthcoming with that information if you file for divorce. Plus, you'll have to pay a lawyer to get information after you file. So, get some advice about your legal rights and obligations. Document what you know with bank statements, tax records, 1090 forms, etc., before charging in with divorce papers.
Good luck,
