I'm always interested in hearing about the legal system in other countries! It sounds like there's a lot less red tape to go through in Sweden. It's unfortunate that here in the US we often have to get bogged-down in the legal system to get a divorce. Plus, it is normally VERY expensive. I do understand the philosophy that it shouldn't be "easy" to get a divorce, but I don't think the process should have to leave you financially and emotionally bereft in the end.

i think in my next incarnation i will be a swede...

the system where i live - in israel - is soooo terrible. you have to get married and divorced in a religious court - if you are jewish then it means in the rabbinical courts, which is a throwback to the middle ages - I KID YOU NOT. they do their best to push off the divorce, to delay, because they feel that their job is to try and hold onto every marriage, as marriage is ordained by God. something like that. even if a woman says that her husband beats her, cheats on her, whatever - they will most likely tell her something like "you need to be nicer to him".
