How long did your divorce take??

OK, how long did your divorce take? Or, of you filed, how long have you been waiting to this point? It's been six months now, and I am REALLY starting to get impatient. He always seems to be able to do something that puts the date out. His lawyer fires him for nonpayment, he doesn't hand in what he's supposed to...etc. I am just really getting tired of this hanging over my head indefinitely.

You probably won't like my answer... but it used to be that you could get divorced very quickly in my state (GA)... I believe they're looking to extend the waiting period right now... but... in my case...

Filed on 02/20/04 and were in court on 04/05/04 and it was official that day...

Good Luck...

That's good, I'm glad to hear it... once I decided it was what needed to happen, I wanted it over with and quickly... xh actually moved out and started threatening to divorce in July of 03 but wasn't mature enough to actually follow through... but once the ball started rolling here, it went very quickly

*hugs*

Filed 3-4-05. Finished 7-8-05. Signed off by the state 8-8-05. So 5months is all it took for him to get rid of me and destroy our family. Hugs, Brenda

I believe that it takes an "agreement" between both parties for it to be "quick". My boyfriend's took about 5 months also... wife didn't want anything but money, he figured the money was worth it, to have his DD full time, full legal custody, rights, the house, etc...

I'm fighting the good fight to hold my Ex responsible for his full capacity for supporting his children, since he F'd up the family. I will not roll over and let him get away with lying, cheating, stealing, yet playing Disney Dad of the year... I am gathering evidence, hired a PI, and today he is being deposed on his financial, work, and mental health issues... I will not give up... of course, if I wanted to just "be rid of him", I could "agree" that he gets to be SuperDad, and pay diddlysquat for c/s, and child related expenses.

He will be held responsible!

My X (formerly Mr. Sweetheart) started acting like a jerk in the fall of 2004 ("I'm not happy, I don't know what I want," blah blah blah). The lying, cheating and nastiness started. It took him till the end of February 2005 to tell me he wanted a divorce and even then I had to say it. He filed at the beginning of March. I moved into my own apartment in August and the divorce was final on Nov. 4.

And if I never see that Jekyll-and-Hyde again it's fine with me!

Same here - mine X contested it - i filed Feb 2005, so its been a year. Had i agreed to give him the amount of $$$ he wanted, it would have been over a while ago. Instead, we are at trial. So, its been 1 yr ... & unless they come to their senses & take what is offered - it could be at least a few more months of trial. I too will NOT roll over & give away *MY* hard earned money when it was him who was an absuive, lying, alcoholic who hated to work!

From filing to decree was 2 years 9 months.

Although the legal garbage continues to this day.

New Custody Evaluation is on Feb. 22/23. Another $3000 gone.
