My H and I are trying to make our marriage work again, but I have a question about money just incase things don't work out for us.
The thing is I want to buy a car. We have a car we can sell for about $22,000 and get the car that I want. We were talking about it and it sounded like it was going to happen, anyway since I started looking into it and test driving the car I want and spending time on chat forums doing research about what I want and generally getting excited about it, he has now said that we shouldn't be buying another car right now because we are having a couple of problems with one of our customers. The car I want is a mini and with the options that I would like would bring the cost of the car to around $27,000. He has just put in an order for a new car for himself which is going to cost us about $60,000, a nice little sports car for him to have fun in.
Say he doesn't back down, what if I use money that is mine to buy it. My dad gave me some money when he sold his house which my attorney says is mine and not ours.
My question is: If things didn't end up working out for the two of us in our marriage would my new car be considered community property or would it be considered my car and he wouldn't be able to touch it?
Any help and advice would really be appreicated.
