I need to get some sleep!

How's this for irony...when I left my 17 year marriage in June I couldn't wait to have a king size bed all to myself without being awakened several times during the night by STBX's wake the dead snoring. Guess what? I can't sleep! Anyone else have this problem? Better question...anyone have a cure?

You could try taking some Benedryl half an hour before bedtime, that works for me when I can't sleep. I've been divorced for over a year and a half and sleep like the dead when I'm home and now have trouble sleeping when I'm at my BF's. Too funny. It's getting better though! The last few nights I've slept like the dead though, both at home and at BF's house. Yesterday my daughter and I went to the library and I found a good book that I'm reading at bedtime.

Seeing as how my STBX and I haven't slept inthe same bed for almost a year, i don't expect to have that problem when I finally move out of the marital home. But failing all else, you could try taking melatonin for to help you sleep. I wouldn't recommend taking it for more than a couple of weeks, though or your body's own melatonin production will be thrown out of whack.

when i was still married, i slept badly - not only did my ex snore but i was always so agitated and angry and stressed out. i used to wake up in nightmares all the time.

since we separeted and divorced, i basically sleep like a baby. (i mean one of those babies who sleep for hours without moving). there are, occassionally, nights that i have trouble falling asleep or nights that i wake up at 3-4 AM and can't fall back to sleep. i usually go to sleep at 9-10 PM and get up at 5 ish. i notice that there are things that help me get a good night's sleep and there are things that get in the way:
helpful:
exercising on a daily basis, especially working out with weights.
eating well, eating light meals, staying off sugar completely and trying to stay off cafeine.
dealing with the things that are stressing me out.

not helpful:
eating heavy meals, especialy close to bedtime
drinking carbonated drinks.
going to bed hungry.

Thanks for the tips, ladies! I should have no problem falling to sleep tonight since my 3 year old grandson is here for a sleepover and he wears me out!

Glad I'm not the only one who has the can't sleep at the BF's problem. The day my X moved out I slept through the night for the first time in years. I guess I've gotten used to sleeping alone. I'm hopeful that over time I'll be able to sleep at my BF's. He has trouble sleeping whether I'm there or not so he's been taking some kind of mild sleep aid. But be careful with that, my BF has overslept and been late for work several times since he started taking the meds.

There is an Herbal product called Valerian Root. It seems to help me relax and does not drug me out or leave me feeling like a zombie come morning.

"Valerian root is used in the traditional medicine of many cultures as a mild sedative and to aid the induction of sleep. Valerian is a native plant both of Europe and North America. Valeriana officinalis is the species most commonly used in northern Europe and still retains its official pharmacopoeial status although valerian root is most commonly encountered as an ingredient of herbal medicines."

How funny! I took my grandson to CB that morning for breakfast and the server said they were out of grits! I cried! LOL! It was a beautiful day to be out. We spent the day shopping for Halloween and feeding the ducks at the park, you know which one!
I'm doing okay. Still trying to get used to it all. My life, as it is now, is a string of cliches. Be careful what you wish for...you might just get it, the grass is not always greener, you made your bed, now you have to lie in it, etc. And my theme song...Isn't It Ironic! LOL! I'm trying to make the best of it, though. What else can we do?
Thanks for asking about me. I work alot, so I don't have alot of time to visit here, but I always feel better when I do! Yall are a great bunch! :-)
