I really want to get a divorce, but I don't know where to go....do I need to get a lawyer or can I just go to a district court and file one on my own........please help

cytina...
Pianoguy suggests you start with anything THAT'S FREE?
I'm talking free legal (or social) services that your city or state probably has available? Do a search on the subject and you'll probably find at least a couple people or sources to contact?
Lawyers...as good as most of them are....charge by the 1/4 hour. So the moment you enlist one, you're on THEIR CLOCK!
Try the free stuff first...and hopefully, you'll make the right connection. .
Good Luck!

A lot of divorce law is posted on the internet, and by state.
The key issues are
-- splitting assets and debts (houses, cars, 401Ks; credit cards, car payments, mortgages)
-- children.
-- divorce or dissolution.
If you have children, it will get ugly, and that usually implies needing a lawyer.
First of all, hugs to you if you're looking to get a divorce. I'm sure what you've been through and are probably continuing to go through is no fun.
I personally had to get an attorney because of the length of time we've been together, assets and children. I wanted to make sure my children and I were well represented.
Though I know others who did the simple "online" divorces, inexpensively, because there was not a whole lot involved.
It's really a personal decision, whatever you feel would work best for you.
Whatever your choice, I wish you the very best....
Big hugs,
