I'm so scatterbrained!

My divorce has been final for a month and I feel that I'm pretty much doing OK. I'm in my own apartment. My X just wanted out of our 10-year marriage (together for 14 years) -- little twerp -- and he kept the house. Before getting married I lived alone for 18 years so it seems normal to me.

My attitude is pretty good (thank you Lexapro and Xanax) and I'm getting along day to day and rebuilding my life.

But a couple of things surprise me. I am so scatterbrained and easily distracted, totally unlike me usually. And I feel like a lot of things are getting away from me, but I really don't care! This fall I had a 30-year college reunion. I always planned to go, but when the time came I really didn't care so I didn't go. I haven't gone to any basketball games this fall (I work at a state university) for the first time in 15 years and I really don't miss it!

I feel that my life is very chaotic. I'm still moving stuff out of the basement and garage of my former house and that's always on my mind. I know when that's done (not too long now) I will breathe a big sigh of relief.

Is it normal to be so scatterbrained after a divorce? My counselor says it is. But it's so unlike the way I've been my whole life! Or it is menopause? LOL!

Hi Barb.... Welcome to the board!

Yes... being scatterbrained is very normal.... with divorce... with age.... heck, just with life!
