Just found out the Ex has been laid off

again....this has been a pattern (on and off) for the past 18 years and is one of many reasons I lost total respect for him. While he would bash me for not making as much as him over the years, I have always had steady employment and have been the anchor of our family. I am praying that my kids don't end up feeling sorry for him and ask me to take him back because I won't. He has two sisters he could stay with. The only problem is that my daughter chose to live with him full time (my son lives with me). This man abused me over the years and it took several years and the love of my friends and family (and a good therapist) for me to build up the courage to end the marriage. I am by nature a nurturer and can't help but feel pity for him, even though he was such an ass to me for many years and especially during the divorce process.

After almost two years, our divorce was final last month and he has been ordered to pay me child support. Since he has now been laid off, does he still have to continue paying me?

I know there are others on this board who have dealt with ex husbands losing jobs and have gone through a similar experience. Any advice? Thanks.

When my stbx was fired 3 years ago (like he does every 3 years) I had no choice but to apply for cash assistance. (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) They in turn notified child support enforcement, and he was taken to court for defying court ordered child support. Anyway, now the state is involed, too bad for him lol.

Hope that helps.

Belinda,

Usually it does not change his obligation, not is it a reason to try to change support.

Thanks for the replies. I will see how he does with paying me for this month (which he THOUGHT he was supposed to pay me at the end of each month and I had to remind him to look at the settlement agreement, which says otherwise). If he doesn't pay me by the end of this month, then I'll take action. I hate to call the attorney and get charged for the same answers I can get on this board. Thanks, Belinda
