Hi, all! I posted a few times in November, and I wanted to update you all on my situation. Just to remind you, I had decided to divorce my unstable, unloving husband and return from Germany to New York with my two boys. Well, that is basically what I have done. We have been here since December 15, and all is going shockingly well.
I am staying with my parents, and they have told me that they are happy to have me stay as long as I like. My STBX agreed to me having custody, and also to the alimony and child support my lawyer calculated. Since we are getting divorced in Germany, I am entitled to alimony at a fixed percentage of his income until my baby (9 months now) is 7 y.o. My lawyer will have the separation agreement ready for us to sign next week.
Between child support and alimony, it is enough money that, after saving a few months, I can afford an apartment for us. I am thinking that after the baby's first b-day, I will look for a part time job. I am really nervous about returning to the work force after 4 years with my kids, but I am sure I will get through.
Thank you all so much for your support. I am sending you all tons of positive thoughts, and will update you again.
Rebecca

Wow! Good for you! That took courage! Glad you have support. How are your children doing?
I am impressed you get the kind of support that will allow you to only work part-time. I just met with my lawyer yesterday and the spousal support and child support combined pay for the mortgage, but not for the home equity loan or the utilities much less for food.
I hope it continues to go well for you.

Thanks for the update, Rebecca.
