i spoke with DSs therapist today (DS is 20) i have been trying to get to the bottom of things re DS - to find out what is actually 'wrong' with him. i know he is depressed, has anxiety issues, was suicidal, has social issues - but what is the problem? and what is the prognosis? if anyone can tell me... she is not a psychiatrist - but at this point she thinks it may be aspergers. wow - that was un expected but if that's what it is - then i have to deal with that (hopefully there is a board here somewhere.) he needs to get re-evaluated, his previous tests that pointed to ADHD - she agreed with me that she didn't think that he had ADHD.
i guess its scary because i don't know how long he will have to be 'at home' and if he will ever be able to be on his own....

HUGS. One of my son's classmates was diagnosed with Asperger's several years ago. He's doing really well, is in all regular classes, has friends, etc. So try not to get too discouraged just yet.
Here's a link to the autism spectrum disorders board: http://messageboards.ivillage.com/iv-ppautism?ice=ivl,searchmb
Let us know how the re-evaluation goes.

I am currently in the process of getting my ds evaluated. I think he is on the autistic spectrum - I suspect Asperger's or PDD-NOS.
I like this board:
http://messageboards.ivillage.com/iv-pspddnos
It tends to have more posters on it than the link Christine gave you, but both are good.
I truly believe that I am on the spectrum as well - I have some things that are tough for me, but I've managed to do OK. I have friends with a son that has Asperger's and he is doing fairly well. So, do not give up hope!!
Best Wishes,
Abby
