Thanks AnneShirley for asking - things are going...I don't know how good...but we are surviving. I was wondering if anyone on this board knows if when my divorce becomes final on January 8th - if the judge orders child support - will the child support go back to the last day he gave me any money which was September 25th? I couldn't afford a lawyer and at the time my husband was no where to be found - so it was a divorce by publication- and it has run the 4 weeks it is required to run here in Georgia. He won't have to sign a paper or anything for the divorce to become final. The divorce papers are really short - they went over them with me at the courthouse - and in the divorce papers -I wrote child support of $125.00 a week until the children become 18 or until they graduate from high school. They would not allow me to put anything about college in the papers - and that seems so unfair -seeing that when he is working he makes so much more than I do...of course thats the key phrase when he is working. It also said that he would have to pay any medical co-pays or payments that my insurance doesn't pay on the children as long as I maintain the insurance. Will this include medical bills owed before January 8th? He has really left me in a mess....and just to think that he is only 18 miles a way and didn't even stop by to tell his children hello over the holiday. I sure don't understand why he doesn't have his 22 year old riding with him instead of paying rent on a trailer...does that even make sense? Then again nothing has made sense to us since the day he left...why didn't he even want his clothes??? He has no winter jacket or anything. I can't believe that in a little over a month - that I will be the Ex wife that everyone loves to talk about and hate....I never planned for life to be this way...he basically has nothing...seriously nothing. That makes me sad to even think about - I bet he will have no idea about filing income taxes. The IRS will get him even I can't. He will have no health insurance, no dental insurance (and he has alot of trouble with his teeth) - no wife, no children, no home, no vehicle...all he has is a 22 year old from the other side of the United States...what a sad life.

Gal_jasper, I am glad you are surviving. I hope you will soon be thriving. I wish I could help with your legal questions, but my divorce is in Germany, so all the laws are different. Did you manage to get any information? I googled "free legal advice" and got a bunch of hits. Maybe you could find some answers that way?

I hope you can get the info you need asap.
