My New Job...

You know... this whole transition into my new job has taken much longer than I anticipated... it is kinda humorous, and then, so not funny, both at the same time... you might remember that I was offered the job (over the phone) on 07/17 and that my first day was 08/07...

I didn't actually get my phone or computer until the Thursday of that week... now, it was kinda nice, ~not~ being able to be gotten in touch with, but at the same time, there were moments when a phone and/or computer would have been most helpful... like the message I left for someone... and you can call me back, but I don't have a phone right now, so you'd have to have me paged... so you might just want to wait until tomorrow and try then...

I noticed last Friday that my paycheck did not appear to be correct (as in I hadn't gotten my raise)... it was one of those things that I meant to discuss with my new boss, but because we had a sales meeting this past week and there was a focus there... not that my check isn't important, but... so I put it on my list of things to discuss with him...

With the sales meeting this past week, it has just been hectic... I was in the office three days, at the meeting the other two and my boss and I rarely seemed to be in the same place very much... but we actually wound up seeing each other and talking at one of the receational events for the meeting and he mentioned that he knew my paycheck was not correct and that he had all ready spoken with HR to make sure that I get paid retroactively for my time... completely wonderful with me... (plus I was excited that I didn't even mention it, that he had, in the craziness of the week prior to the sales meeting, looked into it to make sure it was right)...

So Friday morning, I get an odd call from HR who wants to know what my new salary should be... (shouldn't HR know was the thought that ran through my mind)... but they apparently did not and so I told him I wasn't sure either but it was either 12 or 12.5% increase over my old salary, but I couldn't remember which... HR chose to go with 12.5%, which is cool, because I honestly don't know which one it was, but kinda makes me wish I would have said that it was either 12 or 13 or even 14%, kwim? But of course, I'm too honest to do that...

After that phone call, I get my official offer in writing, including the salary that I had just told him, dated 07/31... so I signed and dated it 07/31 and sent it back... but man, I'm left to wonder just how much longer this is going to drag out...

Anyway... as for my job, I am continuing to love it... my new boss announced my transition to the sales teams on Thursday at the meeting after my former witch of a director told them Tuesday that I had abandoned the department... the whole time telling them how they want to be the employer of choice... good luck with that with the zero flexibility option there... the sales teams were thrilled for me, which was very nice...

Hope all of you are having a wonderful weekend!

Congratulations on your new job----I think!!!

I had a very poorly handled transition to a new job a few years back and I sympathize. It sounds as though your new boss never documented his offer to you and had to backtrack after the fact. At least in your case, it was made right.

Given all that's going on in your life, loving your work is a wonderful thing. Wishing you all the best.

Thank you... This move is definitely a good thing and the issue truly seems to be on the HR side of things... they actually were the ones who made the offer, etc... it was just truly an odd sort of day... my boss actually was furious at everything not being handled as quickly as it could be...

thanks again...
