I am in the process of trying to set myself up to leave. I am very worried about his debt. He keeps getting credit card after credit card. He keeps charging and charging. I have been making sure when he gets new ones to transfer balances or just new ones that he only puts his name on the account and I tell him I do not want to be an authorized user or anything to do with it. He thinks that is funny, like he is screwing me over for me not being on there. Whatever. I have a few cards in my name. Some he is an authorized user on it. He keeps charging those ones up too (gas cards). I have a few that he is not on, and a new one that I just got that he does not even know about. :) I am trying to get my debt paid off. I am the one that makes all the payments on everything because he is too lazy to do it. Even though he has the money.
My question is: Am I going to be responsible for the card debt that he has on the cards that are only his? I am in California.
Thanks !

I'm not sure whether or not you'll be responsible for the cards he has taken out in his own name. But you can bet the shared cards you have you'll be responsible for. I would imagine that the first step might be to get the advice of a credit counselor or financial advisor. I think on this one you need to get the advice of a professional.
Best of luck with this. Sorry I don't have better advice.
